Local side face longest trip of the season in rearranged fixture

Guiseley AFC will make their longest journey of the 2025/26 season on Tuesday evening as they travel to Cumbria to face Workington in a Northern Premier League Premier Division match. The fixture was rearranged following recent scheduling changes, with Guiseley looking to secure their first win under new manager Ian Richards.

Guiseley’s recent form and team news

Guiseley have drawn their last two league matches, including a 1-1 result against Cleethorpes Town. Manager Ian Richards expressed a positive outlook despite conceding a late goal in that game, noting the team showed good performance but sometimes rushed their play.

In terms of squad updates, Leo Farrell returned to action with a half-hour appearance on Saturday and will remain with the club until at least January. His hamstring injury will continue to be monitored in conjunction with parent club Barnsley. Jake Lawlor, who scored in the previous match, suffered a hamstring injury and may miss the upcoming game. Liam Ridehalgh is confirmed unavailable as he is not yet fully fit.

Workington’s recent history and current situation

Founded in 1921, Workington AFC has been members of the Northern Premier League since their promotion in the 2022-23 season. The club had previously been relegated after finishing bottom in 2018-19, with their return delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic and early curtailment of subsequent seasons. After a play-off final defeat in 2021-22, they achieved promotion the following season.

Workington currently sit at the bottom of the league table ahead of Tuesday’s fixture. However, their recent form has improved, gaining seven points from their last three matches, including wins over Stocksbridge and Hyde, and a 3-3 draw at Rushall Olympic.

The club recently appointed Billy Barr as manager, replacing Darren Edmondson. Key players in their squad include captain Steven Rigg, goalkeeper Alex Mitchell, defender Steven Swinglehurst, loan defender Hayden Atkinson, midfielder David Symington, and forwards Alfie McDonough and Nathan Reid. Defender Tyler Magloire has also joined on non-contract terms after playing for Northampton Town in League One last season.

Head-to-head record and match details

Guiseley have enjoyed success against Workington in recent years, winning 10 of the last 13 meetings since 2005. Workington’s sole win in that period was a 2-1 victory in April 2024. Last season, Guiseley completed a double over Workington with two 2-0 victories, one at home and one away.

Tuesday’s match kicks off at 7:45pm at Workington’s ground. Tickets are available to purchase on the day or online, with prices set at £14 for adults, £10 for concessions, £5 for 16-17-year-olds, and free entry for under-16s. Matchday programmes will be sold for £3 each. Coach travel will not be provided for this fixture.
