Efforts to Amplify Student Voices and Celebrate Cultural Diversity

Leeds University Union (LUU) has been actively promoting inclusivity and cultural exchange among its diverse student population this academic year. With a growing number of international students contributing to campus life, the union has organised various initiatives aimed at ensuring all students feel heard and represented.

Winter World Unite Festival 2025

One of the key events was the Winter World Unite Festival 2025, a week-long celebration involving a range of student societies, including cultural, artistic, and performance groups. The festival featured dance classes, live performances, music, and food, showcasing the cultural contributions of international students on campus.

Multicultural Food Options on Campus

LUU has also expanded its food offerings to reflect the multicultural nature of its student body. Food outlets across campus provide a variety of cuisines, including:

  • Traditional English pub food such as fry ups and burgers at the Old Bar
  • Japanese dishes at Waki Maki in Union Square
  • Indian takeaway options at Tikka Nation
  • Other outlets including Philapita, Pearls Bubble Tea, and Cooplands

International Students Advisory Board

In addition to cultural events and food diversity, LUU hosts an International Students Advisory Board. This student-led forum invites international students from various cultural backgrounds and degree levels to share their experiences, raise concerns, and propose ideas. The board provides a platform for engagement with university staff and stakeholders, aiming to ensure that international students’ perspectives are considered in university decision-making.

Ongoing Commitment to Student Engagement

LUU encourages all students to contribute their views through a strategic survey designed to gather feedback on how the union can better support the student community. This approach reflects an ongoing commitment to making the university experience more inclusive and responsive to student needs.
