Local Construction Firms Help Bring Christmas Cheer to Leeds Children
December 18, 2025Community Collaboration Brings Festive Event to Leeds College of Building
A festive event aimed at supporting families in Leeds was held recently at the Leeds College of Building (LCB), thanks to the combined efforts of regional construction firms and local organisations. The event provided an opportunity for over 50 pre-school children to meet Santa Claus and enjoy a range of Christmas treats and activities.
Support for Child Friendly Leeds
The event was organised in partnership with Child Friendly Leeds, an initiative that works with children’s social care and third sector partners to offer experiences and support to families across the city. Leeds College of Building offered to host the occasion and appealed to its network of construction employers for donations and assistance.
The response from the construction sector was significant, with several companies contributing to the event’s success. Children attending the event were able to visit Santa’s grotto, receive a photo with Santa, and enjoy festive sweets including chocolate selection boxes. In addition to the gifts handed out at the event, the firms donated a further 100 selection boxes which were distributed across various community hubs in Leeds.
Industry and Community Collaboration
Event sponsors and donors included:
- GMI Construction Group
- Caddick Construction
- Powell Industries
- TICA
- G Beverley & Sons
- Bowmer & Kirkland
- Yorkshire Independent Roof Training Group
Leeds College of Building’s CEO and Principal, Nikki Davis, highlighted the role of long-term industry partners in supporting the college and the wider community through apprenticeships, work placements, and material donations.
Local Officials Attend
The event was supported by Cllr Helen Hayden, Executive Member for Children and Families at Leeds City Council, and Alex Sobel MP, representing Leeds Central and Headingley. Cllr Hayden described the event as a strong example of partnership working that creates positive opportunities for children and families in Leeds.
She said the collaboration between Leeds College of Building and its sponsors not only provided festive fun but also helped strengthen community connections, contributing to the city’s goal of being a great place for children to grow up.
