Funding available for community projects celebrating Windrush legacy

A new grant scheme has been launched to support community-led projects across England that commemorate the legacy of the Windrush generation and their descendants. The scheme aims to bring together people from different ages, backgrounds and communities through events and activities centred around National Windrush Day on 22 June 2026.

Grant details and eligibility

A total of £500,000 is available nationally through the Windrush Day Grant Scheme. Eligible organisations can apply for grants ranging from £5,000 to £25,000 to fund their projects. Funded events and activities must take place between 8 June 2026 and 31 July 2026, with a lead event or activity scheduled for National Windrush Day itself.

Project focus areas

Projects seeking funding should focus on one or more of the following aims:

  • Raising awareness of the Windrush story
  • Fostering pride in the contribution of the Windrush generation and their descendants
  • Encouraging and inspiring young people

Application process and support

Applications for the grant scheme are currently open and must be submitted by 23:59 on Tuesday 10 February 2026. To assist potential applicants, four online workshops will be held on 19, 20, 21 and 22 January 2026. These sessions are designed to provide further information about the scheme and guidance on how to apply.

Interested organisations can book a place at these workshops via the Near Neighbours programme.
