Daniel Grimes takes on key role to enhance quality and student experience

Leeds College of Building (LCB) has appointed Daniel Grimes as its new Assistant Principal for Quality and Student Experience. Mr Grimes, who previously served as the college’s Head of Quality Improvement, began his new role earlier this month. His appointment comes as LCB continues to strengthen its position as a leading provider of construction education in the UK.

Background and experience

Daniel Grimes brings extensive experience in quality assurance, teaching, and learning, alongside a recent role as an Ofsted inspector. He holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Central Lancashire, completed in 2002. Following this, he entered the education sector as a learning support assistant in 2004. He then completed a full-time Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at Huddersfield University in 2007 and taught IT at Joseph Priestley College.

Mr Grimes later joined Rotherham College, now part of the RNN Group, as an advanced practitioner in Quality Improvement. He moved to Leeds College of Building in 2019 as Quality Improvement and Enhancement Manager before becoming Head of Quality. In 2023, he took on a part-time role as an Ofsted inspector.

Role and responsibilities

As Assistant Principal for Quality and Student Experience, Daniel Grimes is responsible for overseeing the college’s Quality Assurance Framework. His work aims to support continuous improvement in teaching, learning, and assessment standards. He will also contribute to shaping the college’s future development and enhancing the overall student experience.

LCB is recognised as the Yorkshire and Humberside regional Construction Technical Excellence College (CTEC) and is one of only ten such centres nationally. It is the UK’s only specialist general further education college dedicated to construction and the built environment.
