Exciting Science Show to Feature at Leeds Theatres This April
January 21, 2026Interactive family science show coming over April half-term
A new science-themed stage show called Exciting Science is set to take place in Leeds during the April half-term holiday. The show combines live science experiments with theatrical performance, aiming to engage children and families in scientific concepts through interactive entertainment.
Origins of the show
The idea for Exciting Science originated from a family event when the creators’ five-year-old son requested a “Science Party” for his birthday. After organising science-themed activities such as film canister rockets and a vacuum cleaner missile launcher, the team decided to expand the concept into a stage production. The theatre setting allows for larger-scale experiments and easier clean-up compared to a home environment.
The hosts and format
The show features four hosts, each with a distinct role:
- Mad Mike – the inventor of the group, skilled at creating new science experiments using everyday materials.
- Dangerous Dean – acts as the group’s test subject, performing the more risky parts of the experiments.
- Krazy Kelly – described as the demolition expert, often unintentionally causing destruction during the show.
- Fabulous Faye – the knowledgeable science expert who provides facts and explanations.
The show is designed to be interactive but maintains strict health and safety standards. While audience members will not be handling hazardous materials such as lighting Bunsen burners, they can expect some fun, safe involvement and occasional splashes of water or other effects.
Memorable moments and safety
According to the creators, experiments do not always go as planned, reflecting the unpredictable nature of science. One notable incident involved Dangerous Dean slipping and falling into a paddling pool during a “coke and mentos” experiment, resulting in him being covered in foaming soda. Although this was considered for inclusion in the show, it was ultimately decided against.
