Local football action returns to Nethermoor this Saturday

Guiseley AFC will host Stockton Town at Nethermoor this Saturday in what promises to be an important fixture in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division. Following a narrow defeat in their previous match, Guiseley are looking to regain momentum on home turf against a strong Stockton side currently positioned in the play-off places.

Guiseley’s recent form and team news

Manager Ian Richards reflected on the team’s recent 1-0 loss, highlighting a disappointing early goal conceded just seven minutes into the match. Despite the defeat, Richards praised his squad’s overall performance, noting that Guiseley spent much of the game in the opponent’s half and deserved at least a draw.

Richards also confirmed the return of several players to fitness. Full back Ed Devine, signed on loan from Hull City’s Under-21 squad, made his debut recently and is expected to compete for a starting position alongside Archie Christie-Crainie. Midfielders Elliot Owen and Amir Berchil, who missed the last game, are anticipated to be available for selection. However, Liam Ridehalgh and Jamie Spencer remain sidelined as they continue their recovery from injury.

Stockton Town’s season so far

Stockton Town currently sit fifth in the league table, holding a four-point lead over their nearest challengers, Gainsborough Trinity, who have two games in hand. The Anchors had a five-match unbeaten run before a recent 2-1 home defeat to Hednesford Town, where they led until late in the game.

Stockton’s away form has been impressive, securing 19 points from 33 available on the road. Their attacking record is notable, with 40 goals scored in 24 league matches, second only to league leaders Hebburn Town. Key players include Kevin Hayes, the club’s top scorer with nine goals, along with Joshua Scott (seven goals), Michael Sweet, and Jake Petitjean, who have each contributed five goals.

Full back Tom Coulthard, who scored in the previous 1-1 draw between the two teams at Nethermoor, may also play a significant role. Additionally, Ryan Barrett is expected to make his first appearance since completing a permanent transfer from Alfreton Town, having previously been on loan with Stockton.

Previous encounters between the clubs

  • Guiseley have won one of the five previous meetings, a 1-0 victory in an FA Cup qualifier in 2019.
  • The most recent match at Nethermoor ended in a 1-1 draw in December 2024.
  • Stockton have won the other three matches, all played on their home ground, including a 2-0 victory in September 2025.
  • In April 2025, Stockton fielded an ineligible player in a play-off semi-final, leading to Guiseley taking their place in the final.
