Just One Day returns to raise funds for local learning disability charity

The annual Just One Day fundraising event, organised by the Lord Mayor of Leeds, is set to take place on Friday 13 February 2026. Now in its ninth year, the event encourages individuals and organisations across Leeds to participate in activities to raise money for the Lord Mayor’s chosen charity. This year, the appeal supports Leeds Mencap, a charity dedicated to helping children and young people with learning disabilities, autism, and other additional needs.

Event theme highlights unique strengths

The theme for Just One Day 2026 is “unleash your inner superhero,” chosen to celebrate the unique strengths associated with autism and to recognise the important work Leeds Mencap carries out in the city. Participants are invited to showcase their “secret superpowers” through various fundraising activities.

There are no restrictions on how or when fundraising activities can take place; events do not have to be held specifically on 13 February but can be organised at any time throughout the year. The event welcomes involvement from individuals, schools, community groups, and businesses of all sizes.

Support for schools and community involvement

The Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal has partnered with Child Friendly Leeds to provide a range of resources for schools, including play plans, lessons, and assembly activities. These materials aim to help children and young people feel included and valued, reflecting feedback from children about the importance of celebrating differences and listening to their voices.

Suggested fundraising activities include wearing fancy dress, organising sponsored events, or hosting bake sales. Participants are encouraged to share their fundraising efforts on social media using the hashtag #JustOneDay2026 and tagging @LordMayorLeeds.

Lord Mayor’s message

Councillor Dan Cohen, Lord Mayor of Leeds, said:

“Just One Day is an incredible event that provides the opportunity for everyone in Leeds to come together, get creative with fundraising ideas and have some fun, whilst also raising money for a fantastic cause.

Every penny raised will allow Leeds Mencap to continue their vital work in supporting children and young people with learning disabilities, autism and other complex needs across our wonderful city.

Whether you decide to organise an event or donate, please spread the word about the important work of this incredible charity. I can’t thank you enough for your support.”
