Leeds Apprentice Combines Creativity with Project Management
February 11, 2026From stage school to project management: Phoebe’s evolving career path
Phoebe, a former stage school graduate and professional performer, has embarked on a new career journey in Leeds through a Level 4 Project Management Apprenticeship. Since beginning her apprenticeship in October 2025, she has been balancing her studies with a role as Projects and Events Assistant at Somerville House, part of the Luminate Education Group.
A new direction combining creativity and organisation
After two years working as a performer, Phoebe relocated to Leeds early in 2025 seeking a career that would blend her creative skills with organisational responsibilities while providing financial stability. Her apprenticeship opportunity has allowed her to develop these interests by managing and supporting events and projects on campus.
Developing skills and confidence
Initially unfamiliar with project management and apprenticeships, Phoebe quickly adapted to her new role. She recalls feeling hesitant to participate in sessions at first but gained confidence within three months, actively contributing ideas and embracing learning opportunities.
Key projects and contributions
Phoebe has played a significant role in organising a variety of events, including:
- A Macmillan bake sale that raised over £150
- A Culture Day celebration promoting diversity and inclusivity
- The establishment of a campus Museum of Inclusion showcasing work from Black History Month
Her manager, Alisha Brown, has praised Phoebe’s attention to detail, creativity, and ability to manage multiple projects, describing her as a positive influence within the team and highlighting her efforts to engage learners in educational activities.
Professional development and future ambitions
Through the apprenticeship, Phoebe has gained knowledge of project management principles, project lifecycles, and the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. She has also benefited from shadowing different departments within the Luminate Education Group, broadening her understanding of organisational operations.
One notable experience was leading Industry Week in December 2025, where she coordinated a week-long event and managed various stakeholders. This opportunity reinforced her skills and career ambitions in events and project management.
Support and advice for prospective apprentices
Phoebe emphasises the support she has received from her team and the organisation, including dedicated time for apprenticeship activities and accessible guidance. She encourages others to consider apprenticeships regardless of age, sharing her own experience of learning new skills at 25.
Reflecting on her journey, Phoebe states: “As an apprentice, I feel supported in every aspect, I love the work I do, and every day is a new challenge and opportunity to learn.”
Her experience illustrates how apprenticeships can offer practical learning combined with personal and professional growth, benefiting both individuals and their wider communities.
