Leeds University Union Hosts Annual Celebration Week

Leeds University Union (LUU) is holding its annual Celebration Week throughout May, featuring a series of events that acknowledge the contributions of students and staff across the university community. The week includes seven distinct awards ceremonies and showcases, each focusing on different aspects of student life and community engagement.
Partnership Awards
The Partnership Awards highlight students and staff who have positively impacted the Leeds community by embodying the values of The Leeds Partnership. These awards recognise efforts in areas such as equality and inclusion, feedback, and assessment, celebrating those who support and empower members of the university community.

Riley Awards
Celebrating the achievements of student clubs and societies, the Riley Awards recognise outstanding events, community and charity work, and student performances. With over 350 clubs and societies at LUU, this event is a key part of the university’s social calendar.

- Shortlist announced: 15 April
- Awards ceremony: 1 May, Riley Smith Theatre, from 7pm
Halls Awards
The Halls Awards celebrate students, Residence Life Assistants (RLAs), and Residence Life Social Committees (RLSCs) who have contributed to their residence communities. Nominations are based on the Residence Life Pillars: Community, Identity, Life Skills, and Responsibility, reflecting the support and opportunities provided within student accommodation.

Gryphon Colours Awards
This award scheme recognises achievements within Leeds University’s Sports, Dance, Martial Arts, and Outdoor clubs. It honours outstanding athletes, leaders, and members who have contributed on and off the field through fundraising, support, and community involvement.

Student Volunteer Celebration
This event recognises the efforts of student volunteers who dedicate time to supporting communities across Leeds. It also acknowledges the charities and organisations that facilitate student volunteering.

Intercultural Ambassadors Showcase
On 6 May, the Intercultural Ambassadors Showcase will highlight the work of students involved in the Intercultural Ambassadors Programme. The event will feature projects aimed at promoting intercultural understanding within the university and local community.
Civic Launch Celebration
On 30 April, LUU will launch The Civic Exchange, a new platform designed to foster collaboration among university colleagues, partners, and communities. The initiative aims to promote lasting social, economic, cultural, and environmental impact across Leeds and West Yorkshire.
