Local college recognised for innovative marketing campaign

Leeds College of Building (LCB) has been named a finalist in the 2026 Education North Awards, highlighting its achievements within the further education sector. The college is shortlisted in the ‘Campaign of the Year’ category for its recent marketing initiative.

About the Education North Awards

Now in its 12th year, the Education North Awards celebrate excellence across universities, colleges, and education leaders throughout the northern region of England. The awards cover higher education, further education, and sixth form institutions from the east to west coast.

LCB’s ‘Build Greatness’ Campaign

LCB’s nomination recognises the ‘Build Greatness’ campaign, launched in 2025 to coincide with the college’s 65th anniversary. The campaign aimed to reshape public perceptions of construction education by promoting a modern, inclusive, and aspirational image of the college.

  • A new brand identity and website were developed as part of the campaign.
  • The campaign was delivered within eight months and remained under budget.
  • It featured diverse imagery and empowering messaging to challenge stereotypes.

Impact and Results

The campaign achieved notable outcomes, including:

  • 18 media features with a combined reach of approximately 1.1 million.
  • Over a 1,000% increase in web click-through rates.
  • A 14% rise in enrolments for 2025.
  • A 15% increase in applications for 2026 to date.

These results indicate significant growth and cultural change within the sector, according to the college.

Other Finalists and Award Ceremony

LCB will compete against other institutions including Calderdale College, Craven College, Northumbria University, TEC Partnership, The Northern School of Art, The Sheffield College, and University of Salford in the ‘Campaign of the Year’ category. This category is sponsored by John Kennedy CBE.

The award ceremony will take place on Thursday 7 May at The Point at Lancashire Cricket Ground. The event will be hosted by Lucy Meacock, presenter of ITV’s Granada Reports.

Additional Award Categories

The Education North Awards also include categories such as:

  • Digital and AI Innovation Award
  • Apprenticeship Award
  • Leadership and Innovation Award
  • Student Achievement of the Year

Winners will be announced during the ceremony, with some awards determined by public nominations from listeners of Smooth and Heart radio stations across the north.
