Additional Dementia and Age Friendly Leeds Training Scheduled

An additional training session on Dementia and Age Friendly Leeds has been arranged for Monday 13 July 2026, responding to strong interest in the original June 2026 event.
Details of the training day
The session will begin at 9.00am with refreshments, followed by a one-hour Dementia Friends session from 9.30am to 10.30am. This part of the training aims to increase understanding of dementia and promote supportive actions within communities, workplaces, and families.
The Dementia Friends session is structured around three key components:
- Five essential messages about dementia
- Understanding how dementia may affect individuals
- Actions to support people living with dementia in a friendly manner
From 10.30am onwards, the training will continue with a two-hour “Wise Up to Ageism” session. This segment focuses on raising awareness of ageism and encouraging reflection and discussion on its impact in everyday life.
The “Wise Up to Ageism” session covers five main topics:
- Defining ageism and its prevalence
- How ageism affects people of all ages
- The diversity of older people and the different effects of ageing and ageism
- The consequences of age discrimination on health, self-worth, life expectancy, work, and access to services
- Positive aspects of ageing and recognition of contributions made by older people
The training day will include a lunch break at 1.00pm, with lunch offered on a pay-as-you-feel basis.
