Leeds introduces sessions to raise awareness of Prevent

Leeds Prevent has developed a new briefing session aimed at community groups and service users to increase understanding of the Prevent strategy. The sessions are designed for individuals with little or no prior knowledge of Prevent and provide an overview of its purpose and operations.

What is Prevent?

Prevent is the UK Government’s strategy intended to stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. It focuses on safeguarding individuals who may be vulnerable to radicalisation through early intervention, similar to approaches used to support those at risk of involvement with drugs, gangs, or other forms of harm or abuse.

Content of the Briefing Sessions

The briefing covers several key areas, including:

  • Understanding what Prevent is and the role of Leeds Prevent
  • Explanation of key definitions related to Prevent
  • Reasons why Prevent matters in the community
  • The role of a Prevent Community Engagement Officer
  • Addressing common misconceptions about Prevent
  • How to report concerns and details of the Leeds Prevent offer

Delivery and Booking Information

The sessions are approximately 30 to 45 minutes long and can be delivered either face to face or virtually, depending on the needs of the community group or organisation.

Community groups or individuals interested in booking a briefing session can contact Leeds Prevent by emailing prevent@leeds.gov.uk for more information.
