Trustee Role Available at Cardigan Community Centre
April 9, 2026Local charity seeks new trustees to support community development
Cardigan Community Centre, a small charity based on Cardigan Road in Northwest Leeds, is inviting applications for new trustees. The centre provides support to residents facing multiple challenges including housing issues, unemployment, health and wellbeing concerns, and limited access to suitable services.
Community needs and charity response
The charity operates in an area where local people are increasingly active in shaping the centre’s services. Demand for support has grown, partly due to the lasting effects of the pandemic and ongoing economic difficulties affecting financial security and wellbeing.
Over the past two years, the Board of Trustees, staff and volunteers, alongside a new General Manager, have developed initiatives aimed at improving health and welfare in the local community. The organisation’s current focus is on developing and maintaining services that meet the community’s needs, with plans to expand further.
Trustee role and responsibilities
The Board of Trustees is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the charity and overseeing its operations. Trustees work closely with the management team to prioritise activities and ensure the organisation remains viable and effective in delivering its charitable objectives.
The initial appointment is for three years, with the possibility of renewal, up to a maximum of six years. Trustees are expected to attend at least six meetings per year, held during the day at the Cardigan Community Centre, and may need to work remotely via email or Teams.
Desired skills and experience
The centre welcomes applications from individuals of all backgrounds and ages, with particular encouragement for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates, who are currently underrepresented on the board.
Skills and experience sought include:
- Experience of living or working in Northwest Leeds or surrounding areas
- Business development within a charity setting
- Community development during times of change
- Effective communication and marketing
- Economic and financial sustainability, including risk management
- Fundraising capabilities
- Ability to engage with the board remotely if required
Benefits of becoming a trustee
- Opportunity to contribute to building a sustainable future for the local community
- Development of leadership and strategic planning skills
- Insight into organisational decision-making and responses to challenges
- Collaboration with diverse individuals committed to community welfare
