P.P. Arnold, a singer whose career spans six decades, is set to return to Leeds to perform her show titled Soul Survivor. The show combines storytelling and music to reflect on her extensive and varied career in the music industry.

Early Career and Musical Beginnings

P.P. Arnold began her career in 1964 as an Ikette with the Ike and Tina Turner Revue. She describes the 1960s music scene as a time of revolution and creativity, with many unique artists inspiring each other while maintaining their own distinct styles.

Challenges and Endurance in the Music Industry

Throughout her career, Arnold has faced numerous challenges, including issues related to race, gender, management, and personal tragedies. Despite these obstacles, she has continued to tour and create music, attributing her endurance to self-belief, faith, and the support of her fans. Among her original compositions, Arnold highlights the song “Hold On To Your Dreams,” co-written with her son Kojo Samuel and produced by Steve Cradock. The show was developed after her agent suggested adapting the book into a performance. Initially lengthy and unrefined, the production was later edited and directed by Carol Harrison to create a more concise and engaging experience.

Arnold has a long-standing relationship with Leeds, having performed there multiple times since the 1960s, including with Ike and Tina Turner. She recently toured Soul Survivor at City Varieties and is looking forward to returning with the updated show.
