Just One More Campaign Encourages More Vegetable Intake in Leeds
May 7, 2026Leeds launches city-wide initiative to boost vegetable consumption
The Just One More Campaign 2026 has commenced in Leeds, running from 11 May to 26 June 2026. Now in its fifth year, the campaign aims to encourage residents to add just one more portion of vegetables to their daily diet. The initiative highlights the health and environmental benefits of increasing vegetable consumption and seeks to inspire small, manageable changes across the city.
Campaign details and objectives
The campaign began with a themed Activity Week from Monday 11 May to Friday 15 May and will continue until late June. It addresses common barriers to vegetable consumption, such as perceptions of vegetables being expensive, uninteresting, or difficult to prepare, particularly for families.
By sharing colourful, tasty, and budget-friendly recipes and ideas, the campaign promotes the inclusion of vegetables in everyday meals. It focuses on practical changes that can be easily incorporated into daily routines, from quick snacks to family favourites.
Current vegetable consumption statistics in Leeds
- Just over one in three adults in the UK achieve the recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables per day.
- In Leeds, two in three children and young people consume at least three portions daily, indicating progress but also room for improvement.
- Salad, tomatoes, carrots, and peas are among the most popular vegetables in the UK, often included in dishes such as stir-fries, curries, and casseroles.
Health and environmental benefits of eating vegetables
- Vegetables provide essential vitamins and minerals, including folate, vitamin C, and potassium.
- They are high in fibre, which supports digestion and helps prevent constipation.
- A fibre-rich diet can reduce the risk of bowel cancer, support heart health, and lower the risk of some cancers and strokes.
- Increasing vegetable consumption can also contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, benefiting the environment.
