Students at Leeds City College have received their Level 3 results, marking significant milestones on their educational and career journeys. The results day highlighted a variety of pathways, from university degrees to apprenticeships, reflecting the diverse opportunities available through vocational and academic routes.

Individual Success Stories

One notable achievement came from 21-year-old Lizzy Robinson, who overcame early educational challenges to secure a triple distinction star in her Level 3 Diploma in Design and Production. Having started college at 18 without formal qualifications due to an extended absence from school, Lizzy expressed pride in her accomplishment. She is set to begin a BA Hons Degree in Costume Production at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, supported by a scholarship.

T Level Students Transition to Apprenticeships

T Level students have also seen positive outcomes, with several securing apprenticeships following their studies. Daniel Hamilton and Muawwidh Kazi, both completing a Business Management and Administration T Level, obtained apprenticeships at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) after completing work placements there. Daniel described the T Level as combining vocational study with practical work experience, which led directly to his apprenticeship offer.

Similarly, Alex Kinany, who completed a T Level in Design and Development Engineering, began an apprenticeship with Barkston Plastics, attributing his placement to the work experience component of his course.

Practical Learning Leads to University Places

Molly Holdsworth’s Level 3 Animal Care Technical Certificate has paved the way for her to study Animal Biology (with foundation year) at Nottingham Trent University. She highlighted the hands-on nature of her studies, which involved practical tasks such as caring for farm animals and working in the animal centre.

Adult Learner Pursues Career Change

Tom Dunn, an adult learner, completed an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Health Science with 39 distinctions and six merits, equivalent to 138 UCAS points. After leaving education at 16 to join the armed forces, Tom returned to study with the goal of becoming a physiotherapist. He plans to start a BSc in Physiotherapy at the University of Bradford in September. Tom received the Sir George Martin Trust award in recognition of his academic efforts and spoke positively about the support from tutors during his return to education.
