Temple Newsam Campus to Expand with New Facilities

Major development underway to enhance animal care and land management training

Construction work is progressing on a significant expansion of the Temple Newsam campus, aimed at improving training opportunities in animal care and land management. The project, valued at £6 million, includes the creation of new facilities designed to support a wider range of courses and accommodate more students.

Details of the expansion

The development will feature a new building housing seven classrooms, a reception area, a dog grooming salon, a workshop, and dedicated social spaces for students. These facilities will be capable of supporting up to 300 students and are planned to be ready for the new academic intake in September 2026.

In addition to the new construction, the project involves the restoration of Rose Lodge, a listed building on the campus. This structure will be repurposed to provide office space, with the work being carried out in partnership with Triton Construction.

Funding and course expansion

The expansion is supported by £4.4 million in funding from the Department for Education. This investment is expected to enable the school to broaden its course offerings, helping more individuals pursue careers in areas such as zookeeping, conservation, and veterinary practice.

Jack Anderson, Head of the School of Land and Animal Management, highlighted the growing demand for courses offered at Temple Newsam. He noted that the new facilities would also allow the introduction of additional subjects, including dog grooming, floristry, and agriculture, complementing the existing curriculum.

The enhanced campus is anticipated to provide improved learning environments and resources for students passionate about animals and the natural environment. The school plans to showcase the new facilities to students, prospective students, and visitors once construction is completed later this year.
