Major Facelift Underway at Leeds College of Building
June 19, 2026Work starts on refreshing North Street campus façade
Leeds College of Building (LCB) has commenced significant refurbishment work on its North Street building, aiming to modernise the exterior and improve the overall campus environment. The North Street site, which has served as the college’s home since the 1960s, is undergoing a comprehensive update as part of ongoing estate improvements.
Details of the refurbishment
The project involves overcladding the building’s façade to enhance its appearance and create visual cohesion with the college’s South Bank campus, which features a distinct branding identity. One of the most noticeable changes will be the removal of the existing overhanging entrance canopy. This will be replaced with a new glazed canopy in green, reflecting the colour scheme associated with the South Bank buildings.
Additional external works include:
- Installation of new branding signage
- Replacement cladding to update the building’s surface
- Architectural glazing elements to modernise the look
- New landscaping to improve the campus environment
Interior upgrades and estate expansion
Alongside the external improvements, the interior of the North Street building is also being refurbished. Notably, the college’s refectory is undergoing a full upgrade to enhance facilities for both students and staff.
In addition to the North Street works, LCB is renovating a large adjacent building. This expansion will increase the size of the college’s estate by approximately one third, further supporting its growth and capacity to deliver construction training.
Future outlook
The refreshed North Street campus is scheduled to be completed in time for the 2026/2027 academic year. The refurbishment will align the older North Street site with the more modern South Bank campus, which has seen phased development since 2015.
LCB continues to position itself as a key provider of construction education in Yorkshire and the Humber, supporting regional and national infrastructure and housing projects.
