
New Report Rates Leeds Adult Social Care as Good

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has published a report assessing the quality of adult social care provided by Leeds City Council. The service was rated as “good” overall, with particular praise for the staff and partnership working across the city.
Key findings of the CQC report
- The report highlights the “skilled, knowledgeable and committed staff” who support adults in Leeds, promoting independence and recognising the city’s cultural diversity.
- Effective safeguarding systems and processes are in place to protect people from abuse and neglect.
- Strong partnership working ensures that individuals receive appropriate care at the right time in various settings.
- This was the first assessment of Leeds City Council under the CQC’s new monitoring powers introduced by the Health and Care Act 2022.

Councillor Salma Arif, executive member for adult social care, active lifestyles and culture at Leeds City Council, described the assessment as rigorous and welcomed the recognition of the workforce’s dedication. She emphasised the council’s commitment to making Leeds a good place to grow older and acknowledged areas where improvements are needed.
Areas identified for further development include:
- Increasing the uptake of direct payments for care.
- Improving consistency of support for unpaid carers.
- Reducing waiting lists for assessments and reviews.
Work is reportedly underway to address these issues and build on the successes noted in the report.
