The stage production 2:22: A Ghost Story will be performed at Leeds Grand Theatre from Monday 11 to Saturday 16 May 2026. The play, which has gained a significant following since its premiere in 2021, centres on a young couple experiencing unsettling events in their new home.
Plot and characters
The story follows Jenny, a young mother, and her husband Sam, who have recently moved into a house they are renovating. Each night at exactly 2:22am, they hear strange and frightening noises. Jenny believes the house is haunted, but Sam, a physicist and university lecturer in Astronomy, remains sceptical. The couple’s old friend Lauren and her partner Ben visit for dinner, and the group agrees to stay awake until 2:22am to uncover the truth behind the occurrences.
Cast and roles
- Shvorne Marks plays Jenny. Marks describes Jenny as kind, caring, and intelligent, but somewhat overshadowed by her husband and navigating her new role as a mother. Marks previously appeared in the role of Lauren during the 2025 tour.
- James Bye portrays Sam, the sceptic and antagonist of the play. Bye is known for his role as Martin Fowler in EastEnders and has recently transitioned to theatre following his departure from the soap.
- Natalie Casey takes on the role of Lauren, characterised as stoic and intelligent, but influenced by others’ opinions. Casey has appeared in television series such as Hollyoaks and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.
- Grant Kilburn plays Ben, Lauren’s partner. Kilburn made his West End debut in 2:22: A Ghost Story in 2023 after recovering from a stroke. His character is described as warm and humorous, with underlying complexities.
Production background and themes
Written by Danny Robins, the play combines elements of supernatural thriller with explorations of personal relationships and past regrets. It has been noted for its ability to provoke strong audience reactions, including moments of fear and emotional intensity.
The cast members have shared their own perspectives on belief in the supernatural, with some expressing scepticism and others openness to the possibility of spirits and energies.
