LeedsBID Launches Citywide Trivial Pursuit Event
July 26, 2026Leeds city centre transformed into interactive board game
LeedsBID has announced a new citywide event, bringing the classic board game Trivial Pursuit to life across Leeds city centre from 25 July until 30 August 2026. This initiative follows the success of the MONOPOLY Leeds Takeover in 2024, which attracted nearly 600,000 visitors and generated £3.3 million in spending.
About LeedsBID and its role in the city
LeedsBID, established in 2015, is a Business Improvement District organisation aimed at enhancing the city centre experience for workers, visitors, and residents. It operates independently to create events and activities that increase footfall and economic activity in Leeds. Martin Dickson, Director of Brand and Innovation at LeedsBID, leads the creation and delivery of major events, including the recent board game-themed takeovers.
Previous highlights and achievements
- MONOPOLY Leeds Takeover in 2024, a world-first collaboration with Hasbro
- Leeds Jurassic Trail featured on BBC Breakfast in 2022
- Hosting the MOBO Awards in Leeds for the first time in 2015
- Receiving national and international awards, including an international BID award and a CIPR award for the MONOPOLY campaign
Trivial Pursuit Leeds: Event details
The Trivial Pursuit Leeds event invites participants to answer questions about Leeds across six category locations that correspond to the board game’s sections. These locations include:
- Trinity Leeds (Entertainment)
- Victoria Gate (Science & Nature)
- Wellington Place (Geography)
- Royal Armouries (History)
- Merrion Centre (Sports & Leisure)
- Leeds Corn Exchange (Art & Literature)
The event celebrates the 400th anniversary of Leeds receiving city status, with all questions focused on the city’s history and culture. Leeds Heritage Theatres is involved in the event, with references to the historic City Varieties Music Hall featured at the Corn Exchange location.
Background and inspiration
The concept of citywide board game takeovers was inspired by Leeds’ connection to Waddingtons, the local games manufacturer responsible for MONOPOLY and Cluedo, which was acquired by Hasbro in the mid-1990s. The MONOPOLY Leeds Takeover in 2024 was designed as a treasure hunt-style game encouraging participants to explore the city and discover new locations.
Additional LeedsBID initiatives
Martin Dickson also serves as Festival Director for the Leeds International Festival of Ideas (LIFI), a platform for discussions on social issues and fresh thinking. The festival’s sixth edition will take place in October 2026, featuring speakers such as Louis Theroux, Tim Minchin, Elizabeth Day, Harriet Harmen, Denise Van Outen, Judge Jules, and Roman Kemp.
