Children Experience Overnight Camping at Lineham Farm
July 10, 2026Local pupils enjoy outdoor adventure and team-building activities
Pupils from Beeston Primary School recently took part in an overnight camping experience at Lineham Farm, a countryside site managed by Leeds Children’s Charity. The event, held with support from The David Brown Foundation, provided many children with their first opportunity to camp outdoors, engaging in activities designed to promote teamwork, confidence and resilience.
Camping activities and learning opportunities
During the visit, the children participated in pitching tents, building a camp, exploring the natural surroundings and spending time together around the campsite. These activities encouraged the pupils to develop new skills and work collaboratively, fostering stronger friendships and personal growth.
For many children, this experience offered a rare chance to enjoy outdoor adventure, especially significant given that approximately one in four children in Leeds grow up in poverty, limiting access to such opportunities.
School feedback
Sue Knowles, Pastoral Leader and Designated Safeguarding Lead at Beeston Primary School, expressed gratitude for the funding that made the camping trip possible. She noted the positive impact on the children, highlighting their teamwork, leadership development and enjoyment throughout the visit.
“It was lovely to see the children working together, encouraging one another and developing their teamwork and leadership skills. They also had so much fun, and it was clear from the smiles and conversations afterwards just how much the experience meant to them.”
“Sleeping in a tent was a real highlight, and for some it was a completely new experience. They have come back with wonderful memories and, perhaps most importantly, have really bonded as a team.”
