Community Gardens in Leeds Undergo New Survey
December 9, 2025Local initiative seeks information on urban food growing
Across Leeds, numerous community gardens contribute to local food production and green spaces. To better understand these efforts, the Fruit Works Co-operative is conducting a census on behalf of FoodWise, the Leeds food partnership. The survey aims to identify who is growing food, what types of produce are being cultivated, where these gardens are located, and what support they require.
Survey details and participation
The census invites anyone involved in growing food in public spaces within Leeds to participate, regardless of the scale of their activity. The organisers estimate that completing the survey will take less than ten minutes. It is accessible online via the following link:
As an incentive, one participating group will be selected to receive a £50 garden centre voucher. The survey is open until midnight on Sunday 18 January 2026.
Background and purpose
FoodWise is a partnership focused on food-related initiatives within Leeds, aiming to promote sustainable food growing and improve access to fresh produce. The information gathered through this census will help shape future support and resources for community gardeners across the city.
