Farewell to Cleveland Henry, Chair of Leeds Community Foundation
December 8, 2025Leeds Community Foundation bids goodbye to long-serving Chair
Leeds Community Foundation has announced the departure of Cleveland Henry, who has served as a Trustee for seven years and as Chair of Trustees for the past two years. During his tenure, Mr Henry played a key role in guiding the Foundation through significant challenges affecting both the organisation and the wider community.
Leadership during challenging times
Cleveland Henry joined the Foundation’s board of Trustees in 2019. His period in office coincided with the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent cost-of-living crisis, which placed considerable strain on local communities and charitable organisations. In 2023, he was appointed Chair of Trustees and led the Foundation through a difficult phase marked by ongoing social and economic pressures.
Under his leadership, the Foundation continued to pursue its vision of creating a fairer Leeds for all residents. The organisation has been active in addressing issues such as digital exclusion and supporting vulnerable groups across the city.
Continued involvement with the Foundation
Although Mr Henry’s formal term as Chair has ended, he will maintain a relationship with Leeds Community Foundation. He will join the Steering Group for the Leeds Digital Ball, an initiative aimed at connecting the city’s digital and technology sectors to tackle digital exclusion. This role involves promoting access to digital skills, confidence, and tools for local people.
Statements from the Foundation
Steph Taylor, Chief Executive of Leeds Community Foundation, expressed appreciation for Mr Henry’s contributions since she began her role in early 2024. She highlighted his support, guidance, and leadership, noting his involvement in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts as well as strategic planning for the Foundation.
Ms Taylor said: “He’s helped to make the Foundation what it is today. His impact will certainly live on. We are really grateful for his years of service and the commitment he has shown alongside a successful career and other important roles in the city.”
Community focus
Cleveland Henry’s dedication to the Foundation’s mission and the people of Leeds has been a defining feature of his time on the board. The organisation extended its thanks for his service and looks forward to continuing collaboration in new capacities.
