Funding opportunity aims to assist lunch clubs and food provision

Leeds Community Foundation, in partnership with Leeds City Council, has announced that applications are now open for grants to support lunch clubs and food provision for older people in Leeds. The funding is intended to help sustain and enhance services that provide meals and social support to this community.

Eligibility and requirements for lunch clubs

The grants are available to lunch clubs that meet several criteria, including:

  • Serving or delivering a minimum of 10 meals per week
  • Operating for at least 40 weeks per year
  • Having adequate insurance in place
  • Maintaining an up-to-date Safeguarding Policy for Adults
  • Ensuring staff and volunteers have current Food Hygiene Training
  • Having a written food safety management system
  • Being registered as a Food Business at least 28 days before the club starts

The funding body encourages applicants to review the Food Safety Requirements prior to submitting applications.

Focus on inclusivity and under-represented groups

The grant programme actively welcomes applications from, or benefiting, groups that are under-represented in grant making. This includes, but is not limited to, individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+, racially minoritised communities, and d/Deaf or disabled people.

What the funding can cover

Grants are awarded as contributions towards running costs. Eligible expenses include:

  • Food and drink supplies
  • Staff and volunteer expenses
  • Room hire and transport costs
  • Insurance and training
  • Activities that enhance wellbeing and social connection, such as exercise sessions or arts and crafts

The funding supports primarily face-to-face delivery of lunch clubs with appropriate safety measures, but remote delivery options may also be supported where necessary.
