Long-term partnership aids local children’s experiences

Aon, a global professional services firm, has been supporting Leeds Children’s Charity at Lineham Farm for 14 years through a variety of volunteering and fundraising activities. The partnership, which began due to a personal connection within Aon, has helped provide local children with memorable breaks and improved facilities.

Origins of the partnership

The connection between Aon and Leeds Children’s Charity started when one of Aon’s employees had a family member who benefited from a stay at Lineham Farm, the charity’s residential centre. Phil Davies, Head of SME & Specialisms at Aon, who leads the company’s involvement, explained that this inspired the team to contribute to the charity’s mission.

Forms of support

Aon’s support has included:

  • Volunteering: Teams have helped with painting and decorating at both Silverdale, the charity’s former home, and at Lineham Farm, creating welcoming spaces for children.
  • Fundraising events: The company has organised bucket collections at events such as Leeds United football matches to raise funds and awareness.
  • Annual Pub Treasure Hunt: This event, held in Leeds city centre, attracts up to 180 participants including Aon colleagues and insurers from across the UK. In 2025, it raised £2,500, with Aon contributing an additional 25% through its charity funding scheme.

Impact and motivation

Phil Davies highlighted the personal nature of the charity work, noting the importance of providing children with opportunities to create lasting memories. He said, “I feel fortunate to be able to take my children on holidays and the memories created we still talk about today. The charity helps children have a break and create their own memories. All kids deserve a chance — it’s the least we can do.”

Beyond fundraising, the activities have also fostered team spirit within Aon, offering employees the chance to connect outside the office environment. The Treasure Hunt event has been described as a valuable networking opportunity.

Encouraging other businesses

Phil Davies encourages other companies to engage with the charity, stating, “Have a chat with the team — their enthusiasm and the work they do at the charity’s home, Lineham Farm, is amazing. The stories the young kids share after their visits really do make you want to do more.”

Leeds Children’s Charity has expressed gratitude to Aon and key individuals including Phil Davies, Susan Nichols, and Kelly Bateman for their ongoing dedication and support.
