December 22, 2025Residents invited to contribute to budget consultation amid financial challenges
Leeds City Council has launched a consultation inviting residents and stakeholders to share their views on the council’s budget for the 2026/27 financial year. The council is facing significant financial pressures, with funding levels not keeping pace with rising costs and increasing demand for services.
Financial pressures and savings targets
Like many local authorities across the UK, Leeds City Council is experiencing a challenging financial environment. The council reports that funding has not matched the rising costs of delivering services, particularly those supporting the city’s most vulnerable children and adults. Despite efforts to reduce expenditure, the council estimates it will need to achieve approximately £59 million in savings in the coming year.
