May 21, 2026Local college honoured for apprenticeship excellence and industry collaboration
Leeds College of Building (LCB) has received multiple accolades at the 2026 West Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards, highlighting its role as a leading apprenticeship provider in the region. The college was named Training Provider of the Year, reflecting its commitment to supporting apprentice development.
Awards for apprentices and mentors
In addition to the overall provider award, several LCB apprentices and their workplace partners were recognised for their achievements:
- Faith Loynes, employed by Bagnalls, received the Intermediate Apprentice of the Year award.
- Farhan Miah, employed by Arup, was named Engineering/Manufacturing Apprentice of the Year.
- Tom Butler, a civil engineering apprentice with CML, was highly commended in the Degree Apprentice of the Year category.
- Andy Holt, Contracts Manager at Bagnalls, was awarded Mentor of the Year for his work with LCB apprentices.
Plans to enhance apprenticeship facilities
LCB is currently seeking additional funding to complete work on its Construction Technical Excellence Colleges (CTEC) building. This facility, located near the college’s North Street Campus, aims to support the training of up to 40,000 people in high-demand construction trades by 2029. The initiative is part of a wider effort to address skills shortages in the construction sector.
Continued recognition for apprenticeship provision
The West Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards add to a series of recent honours for LCB. Earlier in 2026, the college was named the best college in England for apprenticeships at The Apprenticeship Guide Awards. Additionally, a partnership between LCB and construction firm BAM received a ‘Highly Commended’ award at the 2026 Apprenticeship & Training Awards.
Furthermore, ten LCB apprentices have been awarded ICE Quest Scholarships by The Institution of Civil Engineers during the current academic year. The college also received The Duchess of Gloucester Award for the Advancement of Skills within the Timber Industry.
These achievements underline LCB’s ongoing role in developing skilled workers for the construction and built environment sectors.
