Leeds College of Building Wins Top Construction Apprenticeship Award

Leeds College of Building (LCB) has been named ‘Construction Apprenticeship College / University of the Year’ at the Construction Apprenticeship Awards 2025 held in Manchester. The award acknowledges the college’s role in supporting apprentices and contributing to the development of construction apprenticeship programmes.
Recognition at national level
The Construction Apprenticeship Awards celebrate outstanding achievements within the UK construction apprenticeship sector, including apprentices, employers, providers, suppliers, and assessors. The awards aim to highlight excellence and encourage ongoing innovation and improvement across the industry.
In addition to the college’s accolade, several LCB apprentices received individual awards:
- Jason Kelly, a Level 4 higher apprentice and Trainee Engineer at Burnley Borough Council, won the ‘Level 4 Construction Apprentice of the Year’ award. Jason expressed gratitude to his assessor and the engineering team at Burnley Borough Council for their support and mentoring throughout his apprenticeship.
- Tom Marwood, another Level 4 higher apprentice employed by NG Bailey, was named ‘Technical Apprentice of the Year’.
- Lois Riley, a Junior Project Manager at Equans UK & Ireland and former Level 4 Construction Quantity Surveying Technician apprentice at LCB, won the ‘Lloyds Banking Group Rising Star of the Year Award’ at the Yorkshire & Humber regional finals of the Department for Education’s National Apprenticeship and Skills Awards 2025. Lois is set to compete in the national finals in London later this year.

Rob Holmes, Vice Principal for Quality, Curriculum, and Innovation at LCB, commented on the award, noting it reflects the collective effort and dedication of staff and students over the past 18 months.
