Local mother shares experience as new charity shop launches

A new Leeds Hospitals Charity shop has opened on Morley high street, aiming to raise funds to support families receiving care at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. The shop was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Morley, Councillor Carol Edwards.

Personal story highlights the charity’s impact

Morley resident Vicki Randall, whose son Leo was born prematurely, spent 16 weeks in hospital with him. During this time, she experienced the support provided by Leeds Hospitals Charity first-hand. The charity funds initiatives such as the Beads of Courage programme, which provided colourful beads to mark each stage of Leo’s hospital journey, including operations, blood transfusions, and other procedures.

Vicki described how collecting the beads gave her and her family hope during a difficult period: “Every new bead meant Leo was one step closer to coming home with us. It helped bring us some hope at a very challenging time, giving us a positive way to follow Leo’s hospital journey.”

Purpose of the new shop

The new Morley shop will contribute to raising funds that help provide care and support to patients and their families at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. The charity supports various services and projects that aim to improve patient experience and wellbeing during hospital stays.

  • The shop is located on Morley high street, making it accessible to local residents.
