City centre to host interactive trivia event celebrating Leeds’ history

Leeds will become the setting for a large-scale interactive version of the classic board game Trivial Pursuit this summer, marking 400 years since the city was granted its royal charter. The event, organised by LeedsBID, will run from 25 July to 30 August 2026 and is free for all to participate in.

Event details and format

The experience will see participants move around the city centre, answering questions related to Leeds and collecting wedges, similar to the original game. The six traditional Trivial Pursuit categories will be represented at key locations across the city:

  • Entertainment
  • Geography
  • Sports & Leisure
  • Science and Nature
  • History
  • Art & Literature

Questions will be available in both classic and junior formats to engage a wide range of ages. One of the main locations will be Brodrick Hall inside Leeds City Museum, named after architect Cuthbert Brodrick, known for designing several notable Leeds buildings.

Background and significance

This event follows the MONOPOLY Leeds Takeover in summer 2024, another city-wide game experience created in collaboration with Hasbro. The Trivial Pursuit Leeds event focuses on the stories, achievements and facts that have shaped the city over the past four centuries.

Leeds has a rich history including the origins of Marks & Spencer, links to the first British internet provider, and the invention of carbonated water. The city has also been home to prominent figures such as actor Peter O’Toole, singer Melanie Brown, chef Marco Pierre White and cyclist Beryl Burton.

How to participate

Participants will travel between the different category locations, answering questions about Leeds’ history, culture and notable people. Correct answers earn wedges, and after collecting all six, players will face a final question to complete the game.

The event aims to provide an engaging way for residents and visitors to learn more about Leeds’ heritage and achievements through an interactive experience.
