Students to engage with candidates ahead of upcoming elections

Leeds University Union (LUU) is hosting its LeadLUU Campaigning Week from 11 to 15 March, offering students the opportunity to meet and interact with candidates standing for student leadership positions. The event is designed to encourage student participation in the election process and to provide a platform for candidates to present their ideas and priorities.

What is Campaigning Week?

During Campaigning Week, candidates running in the LeadLUU elections actively promote their ambitions and plans for the Union. Students can expect to see candidates around the LUU building engaging in conversations, sharing their proposals, and explaining what they aim to change, improve, or maintain within the Union.

Why is it important for students?

This week serves as a key opportunity for students to:

  • Meet candidates face-to-face
  • Ask questions about their ideas and priorities
  • Share their own experiences and views

By the end of the week, students will be in a better position to decide who they believe should represent their interests as the next cohort of student leaders.

Choosing the right candidate

The LeadLUU elections focus on genuine representation rather than mere campaigning slogans. Students with interests in areas such as wellbeing, student spaces, clubs and societies, campus community, or academic representation are encouraged to engage with candidates to find those whose ideas align with their priorities.

Students do not need to wait to be approached; they are encouraged to initiate conversations with candidates they encounter around the LUU building.

Voting details

Voting for the LeadLUU elections will open from 16 to 18 March. Every vote contributes to shaping the future leadership and direction of Leeds University Union.
