Leeds University Union (LUU) has announced the opening of nominations for its LeadLUU Student Executive positions, introducing a restructured system with new roles designed to strengthen student leadership and representation across campus.
Overview of Student Executive Roles
The Student Executives are a group of elected student leaders who work collaboratively to represent the interests of Leeds University students at multiple levels. Their responsibilities include engaging with the student body, influencing decisions at the Trustee Board of the Union, and contributing to initiatives both within the university and the wider community.
There are six executive positions available this year, five of which are full-time roles and one voluntary role. These positions are integral to the governance and decision-making processes of LUU, a registered charity.

- Welfare and Liberations Student Executive: This role focuses on student wellbeing and safety, leading the newly established Liberations team to promote inclusivity within the Union.
- Student Opportunities and Development Executive: Responsible for ensuring a wide range of inclusive and engaging opportunities are available to all students at LUU.
- Academic Experience Student Executive: Oversees the academic support services offered by the Union, aiming to meet the diverse needs of students throughout their studies.
- Union Affairs and Community Student Executive: Chairs the Trustee Board meetings and leads efforts to enhance the Union’s community outreach and impact.
- International Experience Student Executive: A role designated for an international student, focusing on making the Union and wider community more accessible and inclusive for international students.
- Voluntary Post-Graduate Research Student Executive: Represents the interests and needs of postgraduate research students in Trustee Board discussions.
Eligibility and Application Process
To be eligible to apply, candidates must be current students at the University of Leeds, regardless of their year of study. Those elected are expected to treat their role similarly to a graduate scheme or sabbatical, dedicating significant time and effort to their responsibilities.
