Local Business Group Joins Effort to Improve Public Spaces

LeedsBID, the organisation representing businesses in Leeds city centre, recently took part in a community clean-up event aimed at improving the local environment. The activity involved senior management and office staff working alongside the city’s Street Rangers to carry out litter picking and general tidying outside the Crowne Plaza Leeds on Wellington Street.

Environmental and Community Focus

The clean-up formed part of LeedsBID’s wider Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) programme, which encourages businesses in the city centre to contribute positively to their surroundings. The session included clearing leaves and removing litter to enhance the area around the hotel premises.

LeedsBID’s Operations Manager, Carmine Ruggiero, explained that these sessions provide an opportunity for staff to step away from their usual work environment and dedicate time to community improvement. He noted that such activities can help strengthen working relationships and develop skills such as leadership, decision-making, creativity, and problem-solving.

Business Engagement and Community Impact

LeedsBID is developing a programme to encourage more businesses to participate in similar days of action, aiming to create a positive impact on both the local environment and communities within the city centre.

Feedback from Crowne Plaza Leeds

Katie O’Hara, Director of Sales and Marketing at Crowne Plaza Leeds, expressed appreciation for the clean-up effort, stating:

“A big thank you to LeedsBID for the leaf and litter pick-up outside Crowne Plaza Leeds – you did a wonderful job. Your support keeps our surroundings looking sharp, and it’s a brilliant (and very seasonal!) example of your ongoing ESG commitment to giving back to the city.”

This initiative highlights the growing trend of business groups engaging in environmental and social governance activities to support urban areas and improve the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
