New Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Opens
April 24, 2026Innovative approach aims to improve patient experience
The Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) opened its doors three months ago, offering a new model of care for patients living with the condition. The centre is designed to provide a more comfortable and less clinical environment compared to traditional hospital settings, with the aim of reducing stress and fatigue for patients.
Centre Manager shares early impressions
Gary Jevon, the Centre Manager, has described the initial months of operation as exceeding expectations. He notes that patients respond differently to the centre’s atmosphere, which includes open, free-flowing spaces and various amenities intended to create a welcoming environment.
Visitors to the centre often spend time engaging with the surroundings, such as looking at pictures, reading books, or reflecting at Rob Burrow’s book of remembrance. When weather permits, patients can also enjoy the outdoor gardens, providing a peaceful setting.
Integrated specialist care on one site
One of the key features of the centre is the ability for patients to see multiple specialists during a single visit. This integrated approach means patients do not have to travel between different hospitals or sites, which can be physically demanding and time-consuming.
- Multiple specialists available simultaneously
- Reduced need for travel between appointments
- Focus on minimising patient stress and fatigue
The centre’s design and approach aim to support patients holistically, recognising the challenges faced by those living with MND.
