New Story Explorers Exhibition Opens at Leeds Central Library

A new exhibition titled Story Explorers has opened at Leeds Central Library, offering families an immersive experience that takes visitors from outer space to the ocean floor. The exhibition runs from 19 February to 30 May 2026 and is designed to encourage young readers to engage with storytelling through a variety of interactive displays and activities.
Exhibition features and activities
The exhibition includes several eye-catching installations, such as a giant cuddly octopus and a detailed model of the moon, creating an engaging environment for children and their families. Visitors can explore a range of imaginary worlds through reading, playing, crafting, and creating.
Story Explorers has been co-produced with the British Library and features a collection of unusual and intriguing items drawn from the collections of Leeds Libraries, Leeds Museums and Galleries, and the British Library. In addition to books, the exhibition includes sound recordings from the British Library’s Sound Archive and an activity table where children can draw and create artwork.
Adjacent to the exhibition, there is a temporary mini children’s library, allowing families to continue enjoying reading beyond the main displays.

Statements from organisers
Councillor Asghar Khan, Leeds City Council’s executive member for communities, customer services and community safety, highlighted the educational value of the exhibition, stating that it provides young readers with opportunities to explore new storytelling worlds and expand their imaginations.
Kenn Taylor, Senior Culture Manager North at the British Library, emphasised the importance of libraries in offering access to stories from around the world and expressed hope that Story Explorers will inspire a sense of discovery among young visitors.
