Trustee Positions Open at The Old Fire Station in East Leeds

Local community organisation seeks new board members

The Old Fire Station, a community asset based in East Leeds, is inviting applications for three new trustee roles as it approaches its 10-year anniversary. The organisation is entering a new phase of development and is looking to expand its board to help guide its strategic direction and governance.

Role and responsibilities

Trustees at The Old Fire Station will be involved in:

• Setting the strategic vision and direction of the organisation
• Ensuring strong governance, financial sustainability, and accountability
• Supporting and challenging the staff team with insight and rigour
• Acting as ambassadors to build partnerships and increase impact
• Championing equity, inclusion, and community voice in all activities

Trustees will work alongside an existing board and staff team during a pivotal time for the organisation.

Who can apply?

Applicants do not need prior board experience but should have a commitment to the organisation’s mission and a willingness to learn. The Old Fire Station welcomes trustees with experience or interest in areas such as:

• Finance or accounts
• Communications and design
• Fundraising and bid writing
• Organisational development, people, change or culture
• Digital transformation
• Strong local networks in East Leeds
• Lived experience of the communities served
• Social justice, community development, or philanthropy

There is a particular interest in recruiting a treasurer and in candidates who reflect the diversity of the community served by the organisation.

The trustee roles are voluntary and unpaid, with reasonable travel expenses covered. The organisation offers:
