The Leeds-based payroll service is looking for people with relevant skills and experience to help guide its work.

VAL Trading, the trading arm of Voluntary Action Leeds (VAL), is seeking new directors to join its board. The organisation provides payroll services to hundreds of organisations across Leeds and West Yorkshire, including charities, community groups and small businesses.

According to the recruitment notice, income generated by the service is reinvested in VAL, supporting the charity’s wider work across the city. The new directors will provide strategic oversight, support the service’s growth and help ensure it continues to meet the needs of its clients.

Skills and commitment

VAL Trading is seeking candidates with skills or experience in areas including business development, financial management, governance and payroll. The role is voluntary and involves attending four to six board meetings each year, as well as annual strategy sessions.

The organisation says it particularly welcomes applications from people who reflect Leeds’ diversity and are currently underrepresented on boards. It specifically names people from culturally diverse communities, LGBTQIA+ people and younger individuals.

The recruitment information pack and online application form are available through the organisation’s recruitment process. People interested in finding out more can contact the recruitment team at recruitment@val.org.uk to arrange an informal conversation with an existing director.

Applications close on 1 December 2026. The recruitment notice does not specify any further eligibility requirements or details about the selection process.
