The Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector in West Yorkshire is set to establish a new advisory group aimed at strengthening its role in regional development and governance. The group will act as a strategic link between the sector and local government authorities, including the Mayor of West Yorkshire and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

The VCSE sector in West Yorkshire is a significant contributor to the region’s economy and community wellbeing. Key facts about the sector include:
- An estimated annual contribution of £5 billion to the regional economy
- Comprising approximately 5,700 registered and an estimated 7,400 unregistered community and charitable organisations
- Supported by around 126,000 volunteers and employing approximately 32,000 people
These figures underline the importance of the sector in delivering services and support across West Yorkshire’s communities.
Role and appointment of the Advisory Group Chair
The newly formed VCSE Advisory Group will serve as advocates and ambassadors for the sector, providing a unified voice in discussions with local authorities and the Combined Authority. The group’s Chair will play a pivotal role in leading and coordinating its activities.
Following the recruitment of group members, an open call has been launched to appoint an established and effective leader from the West Yorkshire VCSE sector to the Chair position. The Chair will be responsible for driving the work of the Advisory Group and representing the sector’s interests at a strategic level.
