Winger signs from Matlock Town as club prepares for 2026/27 campaign

Guiseley AFC has confirmed the signing of Cam Wilson from Matlock Town, marking their first acquisition ahead of the 2026/27 season. The transfer fee has not been disclosed.

Player profile and previous career

Wilson, 23, is a winger who scored 26 goals for Matlock Town last season, making him the second highest scorer in both the league and the Northern Premier League (NPL). His tally was only surpassed by Adam Boyes, who scored 41 goals for Redcar. Wilson’s goal total matched that of Gary Martin from Hebburn Town, the Premier Division’s top scorer in the 2025/26 season.

Born in Scunthorpe, Wilson began his football journey with Goole Town Tigers before joining his hometown club, Scunthorpe United. He spent 11 years progressing through Scunthorpe’s academy system and made his professional debut for the club in 2021. During the 2021/22 season, he made eight appearances in League Two for Scunthorpe United.

Wilson later played 33 times in the National League during the 2022/23 season, scoring five goals. His performances earned him a call-up to the England C team in March 2023. The following season, he made 24 appearances in the National League North before joining Scarborough on loan.

Wilson had two loan spells with Scarborough, scoring seven goals in 17 appearances during his first stint in 2022. He returned to the club two years later, making seven appearances before signing permanently ahead of the 2024/25 season. He made 23 appearances for Scarborough before moving to Matlock Town in February 2025, where he spent 18 months prior to his transfer to Guiseley.

Club comments and future expectations

Ian Richards, representing Guiseley AFC, commented on the signing, highlighting Wilson’s quality and ability to both create and score goals. He noted that Wilson was the standout player during live match observations last season and praised his bravery on the ball and forward playing style. Richards expressed confidence that Wilson would continue to develop and contribute positively at Guiseley.
