Guiseley AFC have confirmed the signing of central midfielder Charlie Staniland from Hallam. The 21-year-old joins the club ahead of the upcoming season, bringing experience from both domestic and international football.
Player background and career
Charlie Staniland began his football career at Sheffield United, joining their academy in 2012. He progressed through the youth ranks, signing a scholarship deal in 2021 and securing his first professional contract two years later. During his time with Sheffield United, Staniland featured for the club’s under-18 and under-21 teams.
Following his development at Sheffield United, Staniland moved abroad to Canada, where he signed for Toronto II, a team competing in the MLS Next Pro league. He made 25 appearances and scored twice during his stint in North America before returning to the UK after seven months.
Upon his return, Staniland had a short spell with Sheffield FC before joining Hallam, who compete in the Pitching In Northern Premier League East Division. Last season, he made 43 appearances and scored one goal as Hallam finished 12th in the league, following their promotion at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.
Guiseley’s perspective
Guiseley’s manager Ian Richards, who has worked with Staniland previously, commented on the new signing, highlighting the midfielder’s qualities. He described Staniland as a technically skilled, composed player with a strong work ethic, particularly in winning the ball back high up the pitch. Richards also noted Staniland’s youth and eagerness to continue developing his game.
