Former Guiseley AFC defender Courtney Meppen-Walter has died at the age of 32. The club expressed their condolences to his family, friends and former teammates following the news of his passing.

Early Career and Youth International Experience

Meppen-Walter began his football career in the Manchester City Academy, where he trained alongside players such as Raheem Sterling and Micah Richards. During his time at the club, he featured for the Under-21 team and was noted for his professionalism by senior players including James Milner. He also represented England at youth levels, captaining the Under-18 side.

Professional Career Journey

In 2013, Meppen-Walter signed for Carlisle United, making 42 appearances across League One and League Two. After leaving Carlisle in 2016, he played for several clubs in the lower leagues, including:

Time at Guiseley AFC

Meppen-Walter joined Guiseley on loan from Radcliffe on Boxing Day 2022, initially for one month. This loan was later extended until the end of the 2022/23 season. During this period, he made 22 appearances and was named the Manager’s Player of the Season by Guiseley manager Paul Phillips. He continued to feature for Guiseley in the 2023/24 season, making a further six appearances before transferring to Nantwich Town for an undisclosed fee after an initial loan spell.

Later Career and Legacy

Following his departure from Guiseley, Meppen-Walter played for Bury and Stalybridge Celtic. His career spanned various levels of English football, demonstrating versatility and commitment throughout.
