Local side aims to improve away form against struggling hosts

Guiseley AFC will travel to face Rushall Olympic this Saturday in a Northern Premier League Premier Division fixture. The Lions are looking to end a three-game losing streak on the road as they visit Dales Lane for only the second time in their history, and their first league visit since the 2013/14 season.

Recent Form and Team News

Guiseley’s manager Ian Richards reflected on the team’s recent 2-1 defeat at Cleethorpes Town, noting that despite the loss, the players maintained high standards and showed resilience. Richards highlighted the impact of adverse weather conditions during the match and expressed optimism about the upcoming game, emphasising the need to improve away performance.

Regarding team selection, Richards confirmed that Lebrun Mbeka, who was sidelined due to injury, is unlikely to feature against Rushall Olympic. John Lufudu, who missed the Cleethorpes game due to illness, is expected to return. George Goodman, recently back from injury, may also play a role, potentially covering for Mbeka. Will Longbottom and Jamie Spencer remain unavailable due to ongoing injuries.

Rushall Olympic’s Current Situation

Rushall Olympic, who competed in the National League North last season, have struggled since their relegation to the Northern Premier League. The club is currently near the relegation zone, sitting just two points above the drop zone. Their home form has been a particular concern, with only one league win at home since New Year’s Day.

The team has conceded 28 goals at home this season, a record shared with Stocksbridge Park Steels. Despite recent difficulties, Rushall Olympic’s away form has been relatively better, though they remain winless in six league matches overall.

Key Players and Management

  • Goalkeepers: Jake Davies-Manton is the usual starter, but Jenson Kilroy may feature, having recently saved a penalty in a league match.
  • Defence: Max Ram, with experience at Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Wycombe Wanderers, and Jordaan Brown, recently returned from Stourbridge, are notable defenders.
  • Midfield: Roddy McGlinchey, a former Peterborough United youth player, and Aurio Teixeira, who has played for West Bromwich Albion and Hereford, are key midfielders. Alex Moore is the club’s top scorer with six goals.
  • Attack: Forward Dan Chimeziiri is on loan from West Bromwich Albion, while winger Jakob Kruszynski is on loan from Mansfield Town. Liam McAlinden joined in 2024 after spells with Wrexham and Scunthorpe United.

The team is managed by Ian Long, a former Rushall player who took over in April 2025. Long is known in West Midlands non-league football for his previous work with clubs such as Alvechurch and Stourbridge.

Previous Meetings

This match will be only the fourth meeting between Guiseley and Rushall Olympic. Their last encounter at Dales Lane was in the 2013/14 season during the FA Trophy, where Guiseley won 2-1 after a goalless draw in the first match. The clubs met once earlier this season at Nethermoor, with Rushall Olympic winning 1-0.
