Guiseley Prepare to Host Warrington Town at Nethermoor
February 20, 2026Local football fixture preview ahead of Saturday’s match
Guiseley AFC will return to their home ground, Nethermoor, this weekend to face Warrington Town in a Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division match. The fixture marks only the second meeting between the sides at Nethermoor in recent years.
Recent Form and Team News
Guiseley come into the game following a narrow 1-0 defeat away at Ilkeston Town last Saturday. Manager Ian Richards expressed disappointment with the team’s first-half performance, describing it as too passive and admitting that the goal conceded was preventable. Richards noted that while there was a tactical plan in place, it was not executed as expected.
In the second half, Richards observed an increase in intensity and urgency but felt the team lacked the quality needed to secure a win. He also highlighted the team’s struggle to convert chances, stating that the side has scored only one goal in their last four matches. Richards emphasised the need to improve finishing and chance creation moving forward.
Regarding player availability, Guiseley have been without top scorer Jordan Thewlis for the past two games, with hopes he will be fit to return against Warrington. Will Longbottom remains sidelined due to a long-standing issue requiring surgery, while George Goodman is nearing a return. Elliot Owen and Kyle White are recovering well after recent substitute appearances and may feature from the start. Defender Amir Berchil, who played the full 90 minutes last week, has received praise and is expected to retain his place alongside Archie Christie-Crainie.
Warrington Town’s Recent Performance and Squad Update
Warrington Town were relegated from the National League North last season and experienced a challenging start to the current campaign. However, a victory over Guiseley in October sparked a run of just two defeats in 16 matches. One of those defeats was a heavy 8-0 loss to Hebburn Town in November. Since then, Warrington have recorded only one win, a 2-1 victory over Prescot Cables in late January, but have failed to win in their last four games, collecting just one point in that period.
Currently, Warrington sit just outside the play-off positions, eight points behind fifth-placed Stockton Town. The club recently lost goalkeeper Jamie Jones, who signed for Southampton to provide cover following an injury to their first-choice keeper. Fortunately for Warrington, regular goalkeeper Liam Isherwood has returned to availability.
Warrington will be without key players Reece Daly and Liam Brazier, both unavailable due to concussion protocols and the end of a loan spell respectively. Former Guiseley player Kallan Murphy is suspended following a red card, and Troy Bourne will miss the match serving the last game of a suspension for accumulating 10 yellow cards.
The Warrington midfield includes experienced players such as former Bolton midfielder Josh Vela, veteran Jay Harris, and loanee Joe Rodwell-Grant, whose loan has recently been extended. Daly is the club’s top scorer with eight goals this season, followed by forward Max Thompson with six.
Paul Carden has managed Warrington Town since September 2024, returning for a second spell after previously managing the club from 2016 to 2021.
