Guiseley Secure 4-0 Win Over Steeton in County Cup
October 28, 2026Guiseley advance to next round after strong performance at Marley Stadium
Guiseley AFC progressed to the second round of the West Riding County Cup following a 4-0 victory against Steeton at Marley Stadium on Tuesday, 27 October 2026. The match saw Guiseley field a much-changed side but still manage to overcome a resilient Steeton team.
Match Summary
Guiseley dominated possession for much of the game, creating numerous chances through neat passing and sustained pressure. However, Steeton proved to be a stubborn opponent, particularly in the first hour, restricting Guiseley to a single goal during that period.
The opening goal came when Steeton lost possession near their own penalty area. Kyle White capitalised on the error by feeding Will Longbottom, who broke the offside trap and scored his first goal from open play in over a year by firing past Steeton’s goalkeeper Brad Emmerson.
Steeton responded with increased pressure and forced Guiseley’s goalkeeper Michael Roxburgh into a save from a close-range shot by Kevin Gonzalez. This was Roxburgh’s only save of the match.
Guiseley continued to press and nearly doubled their lead before half-time when Jordan Thewlis advanced through midfield and set up Jack Emmett, whose shot narrowly missed the target.
Second Half Developments
At half-time, Guiseley introduced Cam Wilson and Charlie Staniland, replacing Longbottom and Emmett. Wilson scored twice with impressive finishes, increasing Guiseley’s lead to three goals. His first was a shot through a crowded penalty area, and the second was a curled effort around the goalkeeper.
Wilson nearly completed a hat-trick, but his shot struck the goalkeeper’s leg and was cleared by a last-ditch header from Alfie Dowden.
Later in the half, academy players Ibby Origbaajo and Dan Brookes came on and combined to score the fourth goal. Origbaajo provided a chipped through ball which Brookes volleyed towards goal. The ball hit both posts before crossing the line, effectively sealing the win.
