Team News

Guiseley’s manager Ian Richards will be looking to secure a sixth consecutive pre-season victory. The squad has seen some players return recently, including Lucas Odunston, who featured in the last two friendlies and scored his first goal for the club in the previous match.

However, several players missed the latest game against Pontefract Collieries, including Lebrun Mbeka, Harrison Hopper, Jordan Thewlis, Will Longbottom, Frankie Sinfield, Jack Emmett, and Michael Roxburgh. Forward Jay Rollins completed 75 minutes in that match, marking his longest appearance of the pre-season so far.

Barnsley’s Pre-Season and Squad Update

Barnsley, who finished 15th in League One last season—their lowest league finish in 23 years—are under the management of Daniel Stendel, who has returned for a second spell at the club. Stendel previously led Barnsley to promotion to the Championship.

The club has retained key players such as Leo Farrell and Lewis Gould. Notably, former Guiseley centre-back Calum Hudson has joined Barnsley following a loan spell with Guiseley last season. Hudson was signed from Scarborough for an undisclosed fee.

Barnsley’s pre-season results have been mixed, with wins against Matlock Town and Scarborough, and defeats to York City and Blackburn Rovers. Leo Farrell has scored in both victories, continuing his scoring form from last season.

Previous Meetings

  • The two clubs last met in pre-season 2024, when a Barnsley XI won 4-0, with Leo Farrell scoring a hat-trick.
  • In 2017, a pre-season match ended in a 3-3 draw, followed by a 3-2 Barnsley victory at Nethermoor the following year.
