June 30, 2026Midfielder Commits to Club Amid Ongoing Health Challenges
Jack Emmett, the 32-year-old central midfielder, has signed a new contract with Guiseley AFC as he continues to rebuild his football career while managing Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). Emmett joined Guiseley in August 2024 and has since made 77 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals.
Career Background and Health Struggles
Emmett began his professional career at Harrogate Town, his hometown club, where he played 229 matches and contributed to two promotions, including the club’s ascent to EFL League Two in the 2020-21 season. However, during that season, he began experiencing symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which led him to leave professional football in January 2021 to focus on his health.
During his time away from the game, Emmett pursued academic studies, achieving First Class Honours at Loughborough University and completing a Master’s degree in psychology at the University of Nottingham. He also worked as an accountant before returning to football.
Return to Football and Current Season
After a brief spell at Knaresborough Town at the end of the 2023-24 season, Emmett joined Guiseley AFC. Since the arrival of manager Ian Richards in November 2025, Emmett has been a regular feature in the team, missing only three games and starting nearly all matches. In the 2025-26 campaign alone, he made 37 appearances.
Emmett has spoken openly about the challenges of managing CFS, describing it as a long and difficult process that differs from typical sports injuries. He emphasised the need to carefully balance training and playing time to avoid overexertion.
“Chronic Fatigue has been very difficult to work with and has restricted me in being able to play and train. It has been and still is a very long road,” Emmett said. “I do not worry about being the same player again, I just feel a different athlete.”
He also noted that while he has had to adapt his style of play, he remains motivated to perform at a high level and contribute to the team’s progress.
Outlook for the Upcoming Season
Emmett expressed optimism about the club’s direction under Ian Richards and his management team. He highlighted the positive atmosphere within the squad and the club’s ambitions for the 2026-27 season.
“Ian is very switched on and creates a good atmosphere in the dressing room and that is a key thing,” Emmett said. “We can see that in the players they have recruited that they will stamp their own style on things in the new season and I am very excited for that.”
He also praised the club’s volunteers and supporters for creating a welcoming environment that helps players focus on their performance without undue pressure.
