Guiseley AFC Whites and Yellows Draw 3-3 at Nethermoor

The second John Bridson Memorial Match took place at Nethermoor on Sunday, featuring Guiseley AFC Whites and Guiseley AFC Yellows. The match ended in a 3-3 draw after regular time, with the Yellows winning 3-1 on penalties.

Match Summary

The game started at a relaxed pace, with both teams demonstrating good passing skills. The Whites opened the scoring when Loki Ray outpaced Luke Haigh to score past goalkeeper Steven Drench. The Yellows responded quickly, with James Walshaw and Mark Lewis combining to equalise. Lewis scored from close range after a cross from Walshaw.

Several notable moments followed, including a father and son one-two between Edward and Colin Robertson and a disallowed goal for offside after a rebound scored by Walshaw. Simon Bullock provided a cross that was headed in by Walshaw, though the goal was contested by the Yellows’ management for offside but ultimately stood.

The Whites continued to press, with Andy Holdsworth testing the goalkeeper with a shot that was parried. The second half saw promising combinations from the Yellows’ Danny and Louie Boshell, and strong efforts from Rory Hallinan, whose shots were saved.

Lebrun Mbeka, captain of the Whites, scored an equaliser from a deflected shot by Callum Scott. Mbeka also created a goal for Oliver Birkenshaw. A penalty awarded to the Yellows, controversially given for a non-foul outside the box, was successfully converted by penalty specialist Arthur Lewis.

In the closing stages, Luke Haigh missed a chance to win the game for the Yellows. The match concluded with a penalty shootout, during which Adam Bridson scored for the Whites, but the Yellows prevailed 3-1.
