Leeds-based group launches The Being Men podcast to discuss men’s health and experiences

A podcast originating from a Leeds peer support network is providing a platform for men to discuss wellbeing, health, stigma, and masculinity. The Being Men podcast developed from the Touchstone Men’s Network, a peer support group open to anyone identifying as male and working within the Third sector in Leeds.

Peer support network background

The Touchstone Men’s Network meets monthly, primarily online, with occasional face-to-face sessions. Starting with just four members, the group has grown to over ten regular participants. The meetings offer a space for men to share their experiences and support each other, with conversations covering a range of topics related to men’s health and wellbeing.

Podcast aims and content

The idea for The Being Men podcast emerged as a way to amplify the voices of men involved in the network. The creators emphasise that the podcast is not professionally produced or expert-led but is a space for men from diverse backgrounds to share their stories and listen to others. The group aims to challenge stereotypes by demonstrating the positive outcomes of open conversations among men.

The podcast has released 11 episodes so far, with plans to continue producing monthly episodes. Topics vary, sometimes focusing specifically on men’s issues and other times featuring broader discussions deemed important by the group. The network welcomes suggestions for future topics and participation from new contributors.
